douro

lavvradores de feitoria, douro 2006
this portuguese red wine is made up of some of the grapes (touriga nacional, tinta barroca, tinta francisca, tinta roriz) normally associated with port. it is much lighter-bodied and has lower alcohol (12.5%) than it's port (18+%) cousin. red fruit aromas with earthy undertones. good acidity, soft + smooth tannins make this a really versatile food wine. i should have been eating something while i was drinking this one. smoked or grilled meat (bbq?) or mushroom risotto would have been nice...
