wines from the er-ör dinner - two tyler's throw down...

these are the wines from the er-ör dinner last saturday night, may 8th. my old friend ty-lor made it to town from nyc where he is a chef. he and i cooked a 9-course dinner for 12 people at our house. we had a blast cooking together and enjoyed the opportunity to use our creativity. probably some of the best wine pairings i've done lately. check it out:

oak grove mills white popcorn wrapped in cave aged gruyère

rye spelt bread, spring garlic soubise, chèvre

gramona cava rosado 'gran cuvee' 2002, penedes

equal parts xarel.lo, macabeo and chardonnay. a great dry rose from spain for lighter faire and hors d'oeuvres. always a great way to start the night - with sparkling wine.

ramps, fiddlehead ferns, asparagus, softly cooked eggs, nattō kamikaze

same as above

softshell crayfish tempura, boochoo-kimchi, white miso

chanson p & f vire-clesse 2008, burgundy

un-oaked 100% chardonnay from france. don't think you like chardonnay? try an un-oaked chardonnay, it just might change your mind.

goat meatballs, almond cream braised baby potatoes, rhubarb conserve

rhone gang 'hold up no.7' nv, vin de table FR

cool non-vintage rhone blend wine from four different winemakers. two of which are from a couple of the best in the rhone - st. cosme and chateau pesquie.

wild hive farm cracked polenta , fontina val d'aosta, wild-mushroom ragoût

giuseppe lonardi valpolicella superior ripasso 2006, veneto

from a relatively small producer. an italian blend of mostly corvina. after pressing the juice is passed over amarone grape skins. killer value wine.

black cardamom cured lamb belly pancetta, mustard greens, buckwheat honey

closa batllet 2004, priorat

the big hitter of the bunch - spanish wine from priorat. if you want fine wine from spain, priorat or ribera del duero is the place to get it. an absolutely stunning blend of 60% cariñena, 20% garnacha, 10% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot, 5% syrah

burnt chocolate gâteau, honey buttercream, warm honeycomb & bee pollen

michele chiarlo 'nivole' moscato d'asti 2008, piedmont

soda-pop wine is what i like to call moscato d'asti-s. low in alcohol (5%), slightly sparkling, sweet, refreshing. perfect for a dessert pairing...

44 cordial spiked tangerine sherbert, vincotto, powdered cream

same

cold filtered espresso blōc: caracclitos, el salvador
